Who it’s for
For firms of 5 to 50 people
whose clients approve the
work before it is billed.
Team size is what people ask about first. It is not what decides fit. Three things do, and all three have to be true.
-
More than one client. With one client there is nothing to keep apart, and no question of which client makes you money.
-
More than one person doing the work. A team means handovers, roles and who sees what. That is the problem EditWise holds.
-
Work goes to the client for approval before it is billed. That approval is the center of EditWise. If your client never reviews the work, EditWise has nothing to do.
If all three are true, you fit anywhere from 5 to 50 people, and we work best with firms of 10 to 40.
If one is false, we are not right for you at any size.
Under five people? Not a fit yet says what suits a smaller team.
You have outgrown your systems, or
you are holding ten of them together.
You have outgrown your systems
Roughly 5 to 20 people, often growing fast. The work comes in faster than the way you run it. Client notes arrive in WhatsApp, email, a call and a PDF with circles on it. It takes three spreadsheets to answer one question. You know where every project stands. Only you.
It works. Until the next client, the next hire, the next busy month.
EditWise takes that list out of your head: every request, review, round of changes and invoice, in one system we set up for you before you decide.
You are holding ten tools together
Roughly 20 to 50 people. You have systems, close to ten of them, and one person who holds them together. You know money slips through the gaps between them.
Know everything without leaving your desk. One system instead of ten. The system flags the problem before a person has to find it.
Hourly, per project,
retainer or fixed
price: how you bill
does not decide fit.
Each client gets its own agreement, and invoices are priced off it: hourly, per minute, per project, subscription, retainer or fixed price. EditWise produces the commercial invoice that carries the line-item record of what was delivered and what was approved, and you file it through your own compliant system.
Who EditWise is not for. We would rather say it now than after you pay.
-
You work alone. With no team, there are no handovers and no roles to set. You would pay for a system with nothing to coordinate.
-
You sell per asset through a checkout. A client buys twenty videos through a checkout and a form, the order drops into a queue, and nobody reviews anything in a portal. EditWise is built around your client’s review, so it would have nothing to hold.
-
Your editors earn a commission per piece, and nobody tracks hours. Half of EditWise’s money side would sit unused.
-
Nobody will own it after setup. If no one will run it day to day, the setup will not stick. More on that below.
-
Nothing is breaking yet. If nothing is breaking yet, you do not need us yet. Come back when it is.
-
You need a public API or an on-premise install on day one. Neither exists. More on that below.
-
You run a mature platform of your own and want a data feed, not a system. EditWise is a system your team works in, not a data source for the one you built.
If one of these is you, we say so on the 10-minute call, with the reason.
It saves you the 45-minute call.
There is no public API, and none in year one.
If your workflow depends on an API today, EditWise is not right for you yet, and we would rather tell you now. There are also no webhooks, no integrations with other tools and no on-premise version.
What needs no connection: your clients get review links in the chat or email you already use, with no account and no password.
One question matters
more than team size:
“After we set this up, who
owns it day to day?”
It can be your manager, your producer, an account lead, an ops person, or you, on purpose. If you can name them, setup has someone to land on. We train them, hand the system to them, and they run it.
If the answer is a shrug, we say so on the call and stop there. A system nobody owns goes the way of the last tool you tried.
At launch, two kinds of firm fit best:
creative agencies and video
production companies.
Both deliver work a client approves before it is billed, and both are heavy on video. Pick the page for yours.
-
For creative agencies
Video, design, copy and PDFs for the same client, reviewed in one room and joined to the invoice.
For creative agencies -
For video production
Script to final cut to invoice, with storage priced plainly.
For video production
The first call is 10 minutes. We build your workspace after it and walk you through it on the second.
Who is EditWise for?
EditWise is for firms of 5 to 50 people, best at 10 to 40, that meet three conditions: more than one client, more than one person doing the work, and work that goes to the client for approval before it is billed. At launch that means video-heavy creative agencies and video production companies.
EditWise is not for solo freelancers, shops that sell per asset through a checkout, teams paid a commission per asset with no hours tracked, firms where nobody will own the system day to day, or teams that need a public API or an on-premise install on day one. If nothing is breaking yet, a firm does not need EditWise yet.
Do not bill by the hour? Switch time tracking off. You still see which clients make you money: that comes from each project’s budget, not from a timer.
