EditWise vs
Timeliner (2026)
Timeliner costs less. We say that first because it is true, and because you would check. The real question is what the difference buys. Start with the invoice.
- Timeliner tracks whether you were paid. It does not produce the invoice.
- EditWise joins the approval to the invoice, shows your client the round count before they comment, and shows you profit per client.
- Timeliner lets you start alone today, with a 14-day free trial. We build EditWise for you before you decide.
Last verified: Timeliner prices on 16 September 2026 (its Agency plan is listed as Early Access pricing), Timeliner plan contents on 19 August 2026, Productive’s price on 16 September 2026. If something has changed, email marko@editwise.io and we will correct it.
On seat price alone, Timeliner is
not half our price. It is less
than a third.
Seat lines only, per month, before storage. Timeliner at its published list prices, on the cheapest plan that fits (checked 16 September 2026). EditWise on its annual price.
Seat lines
- 10 people, Timeliner
- 139 USD. The Studio plan (89 USD, 5 seats included) plus 5 extra seats at 10 USD each.
- 10 people, EditWise
- $490 a month.
- 20 people, Timeliner
- 299 USD. The Agency plan (199 USD, 10 seats included, listed as Early Access pricing) plus 10 extra seats at 10 USD each.
- 20 people, EditWise
- $980 a month.
Timeliner does not produce invoices, so you still need a tool that does. Here is the same sum with one added: Productive Professional, 24 USD per user per month billed annually, with a ten-user minimum (checked 16 September 2026).
- 10 people
- Timeliner plus Productive, 379 USD. EditWise, $490.
- 20 people
- Timeliner plus Productive, 779 USD. EditWise, $980.
EditWise still costs more: 111 USD a month more at 10 people and 201 USD more at 20. If you invoice from a cheaper app than Productive, the Timeliner side costs less still. Prices exclude applicable tax.
We are not the cheaper option, and we will not pretend to be. Here is what the difference buys.
EditWise pricing
Four rows decide it.
The invoice is the first.
-
The invoice. Timeliner tracks whether you were paid. It cannot produce the invoice, and invoicing is on its roadmap (checked 19 August 2026). So a second tool does the money, and you match the two by hand every month. EditWise builds the invoice from delivered work, time, expenses and custom lines, priced off the client’s agreement, and exports it as a PDF. EditWise produces the commercial invoice that carries the line-item record of what was delivered and what was approved, and you file it through your own compliant system. It does not collect payment. Delivered work with no invoice shows in amber on your first screen, from the day it goes out.
-
Client profit. Timeliner has no client profit view (checked 19 August 2026). EditWise shows profit per client and warns you when a project goes over budget. It comes from the budget, so it works with the timer switched off.
-
The round your client sees. Timeliner caps rounds for you, inside the agency, and your client does not see a round counter (checked 19 August 2026). In EditWise, your client sees “Round 2 of 3” before they comment. A round past the allowance shows its price before they submit, and with their yes it becomes a line on the next invoice at the agreed rate. The client agrees first, so nobody argues later.
-
Who builds the workspace, and when. Timeliner lets you start alone today. On its Agency plan it adds a one-to-one onboarding call and migration help after you buy, and it offers white-glove migration on custom plans (checked 19 August 2026). We build your workspace by hand from your website and a 10-minute call, before you decide. You walk through it on the second call, with your own clients in it. If you buy, it becomes yours.
Where Timeliner is ahead,
and what it has too.
These are no reason to choose us, because Timeliner ships them as well: client intake forms, time tracking, and round budgets with automatic caps (checked 19 August 2026).
And Timeliner ships things we do not:
A 14-day free trial, and a start you can make alone today.
Side-by-side version compare. EditWise compares versions on images; on video, you pick which version to review.
Capacity and workload planning.
Automations.
White-label client portals with magic-link access. EditWise puts your logo and colors on the portal and the review link, and nothing beyond that.
More included storage: 3 TB on Studio, 8 TB on Agency, 20 TB on Scale. EditWise includes 0.2 TB per paid seat, with extra storage in 2 TB blocks at $60 a month, charged on actual use.
Choose Timeliner if
you want to start
alone today and bill
from another tool.
Choose Timeliner if you run a video team that wants to start alone today, with a 14-day free trial, at a lower price, and you want capacity planning, automations and white-label portals. If you do not need the invoice or client profit in the same tool, Timeliner is the sensible pick, and we would tell you so on the call.
One of our customers took a Timeliner demo this year.
“Last week I demo’ed a service
called Timeliner [...] and it was, how
I’d say, ‘meh.’”
Year two costs the
same as year one,
plus what we ship.
Year one you buy the install and the platform; year two you buy the platform at the same price, plus everything shipped since. Every release is dated in our Changelog, so you can check what the price bought.

Frequently asked questions
Is Timeliner half the price of EditWise?
It is less than half. At 10 people, Timeliner costs 139 USD a month in seat lines, against $490 for EditWise (checked 16 September 2026). Add a tool that produces invoices and the gap narrows: 379 USD against $490. We do not claim to be cheaper. Prices exclude applicable tax.
Does Timeliner produce invoices?
Not when we checked on 19 August 2026. It tracks whether each client has paid, and invoicing is on its roadmap. If Timeliner ships invoicing, we will rewrite this page.
Can I try EditWise free, like Timeliner’s trial?
There is no free trial and no empty account. After a 10-minute call, we build your workspace from your website with three of your real clients in it, and walk you through it on a 45-minute call. You pay nothing to see it. If you buy, it becomes yours.
What does year two cost?
The same as year one. Year one you buy the install and the platform; year two you buy the platform at the same price, plus everything shipped since. Every release is dated in our Changelog.
We already run Timeliner. Should we switch?
Only if the money side hurts. If your invoices go out on time from another tool and you know which clients make money, stay where you are. If nothing is breaking yet, you do not need us yet.
What is the difference between EditWise and Timeliner?
Timeliner is a video team platform that runs client work from request to approval, with intake forms, capacity planning, automations, white-label portals and a 14-day free trial. It costs less: 139 USD a month for 10 people in seat lines (checked 16 September 2026), against $490 for EditWise. Timeliner tracks payments but does not produce invoices; invoicing is on its roadmap (checked 19 August 2026). EditWise adds per-client profit, a round count the client sees, a workspace built before the buyer decides, and invoices: EditWise produces the commercial invoice that carries the line-item record of what was delivered and what was approved, and you file it through your own compliant system. Prices exclude applicable tax.
